Billing and coding for pediatricians and F.P.
Many payers assume that pediatricians do not have the equipment necessary to bill 92552 (pure tone audiometry [threshold]; air only), and therefore will not reimburse for the procedure. Also, because 92552 is a diagnostic procedure and not a screening, it would raise a red flag when coded with a well visit. Assuming 92552 is the correct code, the insurance company may be denying reimbursement because you are billing with a preventive medicine service. You should bill 92552 with an office visit (99201-99205 or 99211-99215) because the test is performed pursuant to a complaint or symptom, such as a hearing problem. A hearing screen, on the other hand, would be coded 92551 (screening test, pure tone, air only) and is the proper code for a screening performed as part of a well visit.

AUTOMATIC TESTING
The Automatic Pure Tone audiometry can be performed choosing among three different protocols:
- Hughson- Westlake
- Quick Search
- Fixed Intensity
In addition to the Hughson-Westlake technique for determining the AC threshold, the user can select the Quick Search for threshold identification, which is based on the first response starting from the minimum selected level, or opt for the Fixed intensity method, a basic screening test conducted at a fixed intensity level.
PORTABLE SYSTEM
Lightweight and compact, Triangle is extremely handy and easily transportable even thanks to the dedicated soft carrying case included with the device.
Triangle can be battery operated: its Lithium-Ion internal rechargeable battery guarantees more than 12 hours of continuous use.
Triangle is also provided with internal memory to store the exams of up to 100 patients: it will be very easy to transfer all the data stored in the audiometer to the computer by simply connecting the Triangle with the PC using the USB cable (”Computer-Connectivity” license required).
